The Norwegian Police Service is the is the civilian police agency for Norway. It consists of a central National Police Directorate, seven specialty agencies and twenty-seven police districts. It has 8,000 sworn police officers, and is also responsible for border control, coordinating search and rescue operations, counter terrorism, criminal investigation and prosecution.
As Svalbard is a territory of Norway, the NPS is responsible for the policing of the area. The police station is located in Fortitude and is led by Sheriff Dan Anderssen. Other officers include Eric Odegard, Petra Bergen and Ingrid Witry. As Governor, Hildur Odegard serves as Chief of Police over the officers stationed in the area.
