Dan Anderssen is a Norwegian Police Service officer stationed in Fortitude, where he acts as the Sheriff of Police.

Anderssen was born in Roryik, Norway on June 10th 1969. His father is revealed to be Henry Tyson, a close friend of the family, but this remains unknown to Dan. His supposed father, Nils, was an abusive drunkard. At the start of the series, Dan has been stationed in Fortitude for eight years.
Season 1
Dan has a quiet charisma and a strong physical presence, he is good at his job and well liked in the town. Due to Fortitude's low crime rate, his occupation as Sheriff is implied to be mainly search and rescue. However, he is also shown to have problems with alcoholism, keeping a bottle of vodka in his desk at the station.
